With the edge of such disciplines as education, psychology, computer science, and linguistics at BNU as well as educational technology, a key discipline at the national level, Center for Knowledge Science & Engineering Research in BNU conducts research on learning issues and develop educational software and e-learning systems as well as knowledge management from the perspective of diffusion of learning and technical support, namely, undertaking research on the basic theory of educational technology; diffusion and generating pattern of knowledge; e-learning; learning environments and technology; computing linguistics; knowledge management and "intelligent" educational software technology.
So far, Center for Knowledge Science & Engineering Research is composed of the following units:
Prof. Huang Ronghuai is director of the Center. The staff includes 4 professors, 2 associate professors, and 6 lecturers. Among all the staff, 9 are Ph.D.'s; 13, doctoral candidates and 30, M.S. candidates.
So far, Center for Knowledge Science & Engineering Research is composed of the following units:
- • Lab of e-Learning. It mainly focuses on research on online curriculum and teaching; online curriculum designing and development; online education evaluation; educational informatization evaluation and investment decision-making.
- • Office for Online Learning technology. It mainly focuses on CSCL, PBL, VLE, and CKB.
- • Office for Knowledge Management. It mainly focuses on achievement technology; recessive knowledge and knowledge innovation; and the framework for knowledge management systems.
- • Office for Computing Linguistics. Its main research focus covers information processing of modern Chinese and traditional Chinese philology as well as practical application of information technology to the study of etymology, pragmatics, phonetics, and syntax of Chinese classical works.
- • Educational Technology Training Center (Cisco Networking Academy). It is chiefly engaged in the establishment of Educational Technology Experimental Schools, educational technology training, and IT training.
